Loisaba Wilderness :: Mind, Body & Soul :: Laikipa, Kenya

Laikipia, Kenya

After the rain...

The rains finally arrived in late December and we are now in a much more comfortable position – almost all of the water holes and dams are full, indeed whilst it was raining several of the dams were overflowing!

As a result Loisaba is looking lush and green with a good covering of grass and green shoots all over. Game of all species is abundant at the moment and is looking much more healthy now that the rains have come and there is a bit more to eat.

The wild dog are also back with us, and although denning just outside of our boundary have been seen a number of times in the last few weeks on Loisaba.

There is currently an abundance of elephant on Loisaba and guests last week saw a number of herds converge at Kiboko dam with at least 75 in the water – a Loisaba record without doubt! (Picture attached).

The prides of lion out on the plains are in great fettle and have been seen regularly by guests. There is also now a mature male lion wearing a GPS collar - the first male to do so, to go along with the five collared females, after the Laikipia Predator Project sent a team up to collar him. The leopard and cheetah have also been seen out and about and last week at the leopard hide 4 leopard were seen in one evening.

Loisaba is also looking forward to hosting another wedding at the end of the month – the fantastic scenery and endless views make for the ideal setting and we are all looking forward to it.

At the Lodge there is now a new grassed area behind the swimming pool with the aim that it become the premier croquet venue in Laikipia! It will also offer an area for guests to relax in hammocks under the shade of the trees.

All in all Loisaba is flourishing and looking spectacular – arguably there is no better time to visit!
